Semnan

Semnan, the east-west route of the Silk Road. Semnan province lies at the southern foothills of Alborz Mountain and it has caused considerable geographical diversity in this province.

In the northern parts of the province, forests and mountains can be visited, and in the south, there are attractive desert areas. With an area of 98515 square kilometers is 5.8% of the total area of the country. Semnan province is one of the historical regions of Iran, whose location on the east-west route and the Silk Road has made it important in different historical periods.

Nature of Semnan

1-Abr forest (cloud forest)
Jangle-e-Abr (the cloud forest) is the oldest (of the world) and prettiest hyrcanian jungle which in the north contains rare animal species. It covers an area of 35 thousand hectares and it called Abr jungle because it’s often covers by dense clouds.
In the forest, abundant springs and diverse vegetation are among the outstanding features of this natural and beautiful area.
The cloud forest depicts one of the most beautiful places in front of your eyes in any season of the year. A strange and truly amazing place that is completely embraced by very beautiful clouds.



2- Badab Sort
Badab sort twin mineral spring, are located 68km north of Damghan-Semnan, containing different types of water, although they are close to each other. One spring contains orange colored and sour water and the other spring contains very salty water.
Water gushing permanently from these springs for thousands of years has formed very pretty orange, yellow and red pools.



3- Shirband cave
Shirband Cave is one of the most beautiful examples of caves in Iran, which is located 12 km northeast of Damghan.
In this cave, beautiful chandeliers and limestone columns of different colors and sizes hang from the roof of the cave. Geologists date the rock and columns of this mountain and cave to 136 to 190 million years ago. In the walls of the cave, due to the deposition of water-soluble calcium carbonate, very white and beautiful shapes such as the plastering of palaces and houses in the form of cauliflower and the community of needle-shaped crystals have created interesting and beautiful landscapes, which are masterpieces of creation.



4- Haj Aligholi Desert
As far as the eye can see, it is salt, and salt is the white crystals that shine in the sun like diamonds in the heart of the earth and dazzle the eye of the beholder. This wonderful land is nowhere the desert of Haj Aliqoli. Experience being in the desert and drowning in all this beauty is a unique experience that you can experience in Haj Ali Gholi desert and Damghan Salt Lake.


People & Culture

The tribes in Semnan provinces are either native tribes who have been living there since before Islam or are nomads that have moved to the region during the Zand period. The language of the people is pure Pahlavi but the majority of the younger generations speak modern Persian. The inhabitants of Semnan know ancient Pahlavi Persian but the majority of the younger generation speaks modern Persian.
